A Deep And Emotional Space Adventure In Ad Astra

Good day, my friends and welcome back to another weekly movie review! In the past, I have been always trying to find a way to give a nice, yet informative movie review to give you! That has been so that you can get the full scope of what the movie is about and maybe a little banter or wisdom as well for your enjoyment. A way to make things fun and also quite possibly help you solve a problem that you might be having! I have tried long reviews and short ones! Now the short ones make things easier for you to read but probably not that informative. The long ones may cause you to lose interest. I have used a visual aid in them and even movie trailers. Some have come and some have stayed, and tonight I am trying something a bit different. Tonight I am taking and making a few changes, there will be fewer visual aids and I am going to try and be a little more brief but yet still informative. Now without much further ado, I give you tonight's movie review which is the sci-fi/drama starring Brad Pitt (Fight Club) and Tommy Lee Jones (Double Jeopardy) called Ad Astra.

In the not too distant future, humanity has dedicated its efforts to further its exploration of space. There is now an agency called Space Command, trips to a lunar base on the moon for anyone along with mining explorations of the natural resources it has which in turn is fought over. There is also an underground base on Mars and space stations. It is on the international space station that second-generation astronaut Roy McBride(Pitt) first encounters a phenomenon called the surge. It is a powerful energy blast emanating from the cosmos that wreaks havoc on all electronic devices, causing destruction and death. Roy having survived the disaster on the space station is told by the Space Command that a 30-year-old project thought lost in space is the cause of this. The project known as the Lima project was on a mission to go beyond our known solar system in search of intelligent life but contact with it was lost and the crew presumed dead. But now with an investigation into the surge, it is discovered that the Lima project is still functioning and that matter from the power source to the ship has been striking the gases on Neptune which in turn have been causing the surge. And it is also believed that Roy's father, H.Clifford McBride(Lee Jones) one of the most decorated astronauts of all time is still alive. Roy a legend of his own in the agency and most reliable astronaut, which has even cost him a personal relationship. Roy is sent at first to communicate with his estranged father in hopes to get him to shut down the ship, but what it really is, is a locate and destroy mission. To locate the Lima and to send a crew to blow up the ship and save the planet from annihilation if the surges are not stopped. Roy only part of the first half of the mission and after finding out some truths about his father takes it upon himself to be part of the mission to destroy the Lima and possibly bring his father home.

Now that sounds like a pretty interesting movie! and because I am the one who is writing this review I have to tell you that the movie was decent! It had a pretty good story that unfolded as it went along. It had great character development and a deep and somber tone to the movie. It was a little slow in parts but did manage to pick up to keep you interested. The lighting of the scenes played well off the overall tone set for the movie and Brad Pitt did a great job as a man who has dedicated his entire life to his job with such loyalty and precision! All in all a decent movie that could be an early Oscar contender in a few categories. That is why I am giving Ad Astra a 7.2 on The Justin Scale Of  Movies and placing it on my Pick-It pile of films to see in the theatre right now. That all being said, that as they say in Hollywood is a wrap here on my end! Until next time remember to keep that popcorn freshly popped and to save me a good seat because I will be seeing you again at the movies!
