Remembering Yesterday

Good day my friends hope you are doing well and I hope you enjoying the nice summer weather and taking in all the fun that this time of year brings, because in no time soon it can be gone like a flash and we will be back in the throws of fall and then the dreaded winter season which always seems so long to get through. Now I know that I shouldn't complain and want to speed through one season to get another. I have learned that you do have to cherish every moment and memory that comes your way with those that we love and care about, because in the blink of an eye it can be all gone! Those people can be gone and our memories can start to fade as we get older. It's a really sad thing to see when people start losing their memories, and the one thing that those of us can do is keep them alive and pass them along for others to cherish as well. I know that I love to tell stories about some of my favourite memories and often tell them over and over so others can enjoy them. That must be I love to write, it is so that I can tell so many others stories that maybe will help them escape their everyday life or make them laugh and forget. For me escape through a good story has always been my thing, especially through a movie, which brings me to my latest movie review. This week I look at the latest movie from director Danny Boyle(Slumdog Millionaire) called Yesterday which stars Himesh Patel(EastEnders) as Jack Malikand Lily James(Baby Driver) as Ellie Appleton. So let us see if Yesterday is a hit or a miss!

In Lowestoft, Uk, Jack Malik(Patel) is a former teacher who gave up his career to pursue his dream of becoming a a professional musician. Many times over over the years he has wanted to give up on his dream but was always encouraged by his best friend form childhood and manager Ellie(James) to keep going. Jack being a talented musician and singer has just not found the success that he had hoped for. Then one night after he decides to give up for good on his career as a singer/musician the whole world is struck by a massive blackout, at that same time as the blackout Jack is hit by bus on his way home while riding his bike. After he gets out of the hospital Jack, realizes that the entire world knows nothing of the music of The Beatles, that they never were a world wide sensation. This becomes an opportunity for jack who starts to play the music of the legendary band, claiming it as his own. It starts off a little slow at first and then he gets his music recorded and then is heard on the radio by none other than Ed Sheeran who asks him to come be his opening act for a gig in Moscow. It is there that he becomes a worldwide sensation and  attracts the attention of Ed Sheeran's manager who Debra Hammer(Kate McKinnon) who signs him. However, Jack finally having the fame he had always wanted in achieving his dream finds himself drifting away from his closest friend who had always carried a torch for him but he never reciprocated. It is only Ellie and him becoming distant, that he realizes his love for her. When she tells him that she has been seeing someone, Jack comes to the realization that he may not have had the fame and fortune, but he did have someone that loved him and was always his biggest fan. In short that he had a happy life and a good life without the millions of fans. So, Jack must make the decision to clear his conscience about his music and tell the world and to also tell Ellie that he loves her and always will.

That sounds sooooo good! I thought so when I saw the trailer for it, thinking it looked interesting and different then what we were sued to seeing in the summer. This notion was justified as this movie was everything I thought it would be! It had a great script and an interesting story that was rally original with a good moral lesson and tons of heart. Patel and James had a great on screen chemistry in there respective roles, along with the a great supporting cast of characters that complimented them really well. Plus this movie had a great soundtrack of Beatles music that had you singing along. This movie was a nice change of pace from the usual trend of remakes and sequels in the summer filled with superheroes and action stars and recycled characters. Not that I don't enjoy those movies too, it's just that it was finally once to see Hollywood take a chance and bring out something original around this time of year. That is why I am giving this movie a 7.2 on The Justin Scale Of Movies which lands it a spot on the Pick-It List of movies to see in the theatre. There you have it my friends, my latest movie review! That means it is time to call it a wrap on this latest review, but until next time remember to save me a good seat and to keep that popcorn freshly popped because I will be seeing you again at the movies!
