The X-Men Saga Ends With Dark Phoenix

Good day my friends, hope you are all doing well today!.. Just today I was looking at the date on the calendar and I realized that we are almost halfway through the month of June. How time does fly!.. Pretty soon it will be the official first day of summer, and halfway through the summer movie season. I know everyone says it but summer is my favourite season, I guess it is because I have so many great memories through the years of summers past with family and friends!.. As I got older those memories only increased in size and have become my greatest treasures more than any dollar amount.  There have been many fun times that I have had and continue to do, I have enjoyed laughter and good times with friends. Some friends have been around for most of them, some have gone and come back and some have been there for a brief moment in time. No matter what though they will always be apart of my summer memories. Now for me as for many others some good old memories can be triggered by something as simple as a song or a movie. Now for me the movies I've seen in the summer tie in with a lot of of my summer memories. That's why when I heard that the latest movie in the X-Men franchise Dark Phoenix, would be the last one. The first one which was released in the summer of 2000 helped kick off the superhero movie craze after it was thought to be dead. But as they say all good things must come to an end. We all must move on, so this week as this latest franchise wraps up I will give you a review on X-Men: Dark Phoenix which stars James McAvoy(Split) as Professor Charles Xavier, Michael Fassbender(Steve Jobs) as Eric Lehnsherr/Magneto, Jennifer Lawrence(The Hunger Games) as Raven/Mystique, Nicholas Hoult(Warm Bodies) as Hank McCoy/Beast, Sophie Turner(Game Of Thrones) as Jean Grey/Phoenix, Tye Sheridan(Ready, Player One) as Scott Summers/Cyclops and Jessica Chastain(Molly's Game) as Vuk. So lets take a look at this last instalment and see if it goes out with a bang or a whimper!

Since the events of X-Men:Apocalypse many years have passed and it is now 1992. The X-Men have earned the reputation as as heroes who use their powers to help humans and the world has no prejudice against them, Magneto was even given an island for himself and other mutants to live on peacefully. Professor Xavier(McAvoy) even has a direct line to the president when he needs their help. But Charles has gotten reckless, sending his team of heroes out more and more that seems more for the praise then for the greater good. Even his longtime friend and adopted sister Raven(Lawrence) is even beginning to doubt his intentions theses days. When the crew of the space shuttle are in danger from what seems like a solar flare Charles sends his X-Men out into space to save them and bring them home. When they get into outer space the X-Men discover that it is no solar flare threatening the space shuttle but some sort of cosmic energy. Jean Grey(Turner) is on board the damaged space shuttle to help to keep it together while Nightcrawler saves the remaining astronauts. But just as they are about to leave the energy source strikes the shuttle and is absorbed by Jean instead of killing her , Nightcrawler has no choice but to teleport back to the X-Jet. He teleports out into space and brings an unconscious Jean back onto the Jet and to their surprise is still alive. Once home Jean is given the name Phoenix by the other students at Xaviers School, and is discovered that her powers have been amplified by the mysterious energy she encountered in space. But the energy Jean absorbed has unlocked some old traumatic memories that Charles blocked out of Jean's mind and made her unstable with rage and desire that causes her to be destructive when she gets angry. She sets out to find her father who she thought was dead to get some answers on her past and in the attempts to bring her home Jean kills Mystique and injures some police officers. Because of this incident the X-Men go from heroes to villains by the government. Jean seeks help from Magneto(Fassbender) but is told to leave when government agents arrive and Jean becomes unstable attempting to hurt the soldiers and possibly destroying the peaceful society that Magneto has created on the island. But the government and the X-Men are not the only one looking for Jean, a mysterious Alien race who has been tracking the energy source is and saw it merge with Jean. They have been living on Earth for a while disguised as humans, their leader Vux(Chastain) plans to use Jean for her powers or take them from her and destroy the human race. Vux quickly finds Jean and explains to her what the power inside of her is, but not the intentions that Vux has for the energy source living in Jean's body. Hank(Hoult) stricken with grief and anger over the death of Mystique seeks out Magneto to help him find and kill Jean. Teamed with Magneto and some of his mutants, Hank/Beast find Jean in New York, but so do Charles and his remaining X-Men who want to try and help Jean. After a battle Jean seems impossible to stop, but as she looks into the mind of Charles Jean discovers that everything Charles did was to help her not hurt her. But as she attempts to give some of the power to Vux she is cut short by Scott/Cyclops and put into a coma, they are all captured by the government to be transported to a mutant holding facility. While en-route to the prison Vux and her followers attack the train to get the rest of the power from Jean. With Jean unconscious Charles tries to wake her and it is there that Jean has to decide to use her new powers to help those she cares about or be the destructive force the world had been fearing.

Now I know that yet againI told you a whole bunch about this movie but I believe in giving a detailed synopsis to help you make up your mind as well if you choose to see or not see the movie regardless of what I have to say about the movie in my review. Firstly I have to say that this movie was pretty decent for the most part but I felt the script needed more work on the story with a little more detail. The dialogue could have been a touch better, but it wasn't that bad! There were some plots holes that could have been filled to make the movie stronger. Don't get me wrong the movie was entertaining, it had some great action sequences and some interesting new mutants along with a some good special effects. But for the most part this was one of the weakest movies in the franchise. I was a little disappointed as I thought this last one would be so much better. While it was entertaining it lacked that certain something, that edge that made the movies so great over the years. That is why I am giving this last X-Men movie a 6.4 on the Justin Scale Of Movies and unfortunately having to put it on the Flick-It List of movies to wait to see until it come son dvd. With that being said it is time to call it a wrap on this latest movie review. Until next time remember to save me a good seat and keep that popcorn freshly popped because I will be seeing you again at the movies.
