Say The Words And Make It The Third Hit In A Row For DC....Shazam!

Good day everyone! Is everyone ready?... Ready for what you might ask? Well the answer to that question is very simple! But before I give you the answer to that question, I must ask you this as well! Are we ever ready! We can have everything all planned out and figured out and in an instant life can change those plans and we must adapt with them. We all have those moments where life gives us everything from the good, the bad, the happy and the sad. When our best laid plans go topsy turvy, where things can seem out of control and we think things are bad, but they are what we need the most. When life gives us, an opportunity do we embrace it and do the best we can with it, or do we foolishly throw it away or misuse it? So, I ask you...are you ready? No, I am not giving you a life changing opportunity! I don’t have that kind of power in me! But we always should be prepared mentally for the opportunity's life gives us to help us grow. The thing I am asking if you are ready for is not life changing, it is my latest movie review. Although that can be life changing if you put that much stock into it or the movie! And the movie we are looking at this week is the latest release from DC and Warner Bros in their latest comic book character to come to the big screen which earned $56.77 million this past weekend and became DC third hit in a row and that movie is Shazam! The movie stars Zachary Levi (Chuck) as Shazam, Mark Strong (The Imitation Game) as Dr. Silvana, Asher Angel (Andi Mack) as Billy Batson, Jack Dylan Grazer (It) as Freddy Freeman and Djimon Hounsou (Gladiator) as Wizard. So, let us say the magic words and see if this movie has the power to keep DC in the superhero movie making game and make ground on Marvel.

In 1974 the last Wizard (Hounsou) left in a secret realm to keep the demons known to us as the seven deadly sins held in their prison, the Wizard, his magic weakening searches for a champion to take his powers and protect the universe from the horrors that the deadly sins would unleash. He looks for a person that is pure of heart and being able to resist the temptation of freeing them for dark powers. One of these people the Wizard tests is a young boy Thadeus Silvana, whose family is not so big on encouragement and can be verbally abusive. Young Thad fails the test, is told he is not worthy and is denied the powers of the Wizard. The Wizard sends out his magic to find his chosen one no matter how long it takes, before his powers completely fail. But Thad does not forget this, and it becomes his lifelong obsession to find this realm and again and possess the dark powers that denied him the Wizards powers. Meanwhile a fifteen-year-old foster child on the run and in search of his biological mother, by the name of Billy Batson (Angel) is in Philadelphia on the run from another foster family. He gets in a little trouble with the law after calling in a false report and locks the officers in a store while he uses their computer to find the address of yet another dead-end lead to someone who turns out to not be his mother. Sent to live in a group home for foster kids he run by a loving and caring couple. This is his last chance, and in typical Billy style he plans to run away again to continue his search of the mother he lost. At the foster home he introduced to his 5 other foster siblings. One of those being Freddy a wisecracking kid boy who has to use crutches to walk around and is a superhero expert and fan. Not wanting to get close to his new family Billy tries to keep his distance and then when Freddy is getting beat up by some local school bullies Billy steps in and saves him. As he runs from the bullies and escapes on a subway train Billy is transported to the realm of the Wizard and is given the powers of the Wizard to become his champion. All he has to do is say the Wizards name to activate the powers, that name being Shazam. Billy automatically transforms from a young boy into a full grown male complete with a large array of powers. Unsure what to do with these powers or not even sure what powers he might have, Billy gets Freddy to help him. Billy soon finds out that his powers can be turned on and off as well as his appearance from child to adult by just saying the word Shazam (Levi)! Not your typical superhero, with the mindset of a teenager Billy becomes a Youtube sensation showing off his new abilities, but still struggling to find a superhero name. He goes from hero to joke in the eyes of Freddy and others by making his powers a joke and side show with the occasional good deed. But he is about to be tested and is inner hero brought out when Dr. Thad Silvana (Strong) who found the Wizards realm and stole the dark power and is aided by the seven deadly sins, comes to destroy him. Silvana wants Billy’s powers and he kidnaps Billy’s foster siblings unless Billy gives him his powers. Billy must summon his heroic side the Wizard saw in him, unleash his greatest power and stop Silvana before he releases the seven deadly sins upon the earth.

Now, I know I told you a detailed chunk of the movie, but how does it sound? Believe me, it doesn’t sound as cheesy as you might think! Infact when I first saw the trailer for this movie, I wasn’t sure, and I thought it looked kind of cheesy. But I always learned to never judge a book by its cover and to always check out a

movie before I judge it. Heck, I thought the same thing with Guardians Of The Galaxy and it totally surprised me, and is one of my favorite Marvel movies. And just like that movie this one surprised me too and I enjoyed it thoroughly! It had a fun and exciting story, a well written script with sharp and funny dialogue. The cast had great chemistry and the performances they put in were great. Adding humor to this character and story made it so much better. With this formula DC seems to have found their niche’ after such lackluster movies Batman v Superman and Justice League. This is a movie that I think kids would greatly enjoy. It's humor, heart and action had a perfect combination for a great movie. That’s why I am giving Shazam! A 7.9 on The Justin Scale Of Movie which secures it a spot of my Pick-It list of movies to see at the theatre. That’s all I have to say here, so I guess that’s a wrap! Until next time, remember to keep that popcorn freshly popped and to save me a good seat because I will be seeing you again at the movies!
