Good day my friends, man the time flies by fast! Just seems that last week I was
writing a movie review for you and here I am sitting down and doing another one
for you! Another scary thing is that, we are almost done with the month of
March! It can be scary at how fast time does fly. One day we are a kid playing out
in the mud puddles or riding our bikes, next we are in high school, then
graduating from it and off to university and into the work force. We meet
someone, get married, have a family, watch as they grow up and have families of
their own. Each day we get older, make memories and often say where does the
time go? Time can be very scary especially if we just let it pass us by doing
nothing. Well, all we have to do is make the most of our time here and it won’t
seem so scary! There are many things out that that will scare us, but if we stand
up to our fears than they won’t seem so intimidating after all! Life is like one big
movie I always say full of all sorts of stories, emotions and genres. And just like in
life when things scare us, in the movies the protagonist must face their fear and
confront it! And, this week we are looking at the new horror movie from Oscar
winner Jordan Peele (Best Original Screenplay: Get Out) called Us. The movie stars
Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave) as Adelaide Wilson/Red, Winston Duke (Black
Panther) as Gabe Wilson/ Abraham and Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale) as
Kitty Tyler/Dahlia. So, let us see if this movie can scare the shit out of us or just
leave us constipated!
Back in 1986 at the Santa Cruz pier, as a child, Adelaide (Nyong’o) wondered off from her father. She made her way down to the beach and into a hall of mirrors when a rainstorm hit. What she saw in there would traumatize her, leaving her with a deep seeded fear that what she saw would come back for her. Fast forward to present day and Adelaide is staying at her childhood home in Santa Cruz with her own family on vacation. Hesitant to want to go back to that same beach after her husband mentions that they supposed to be meeting family friends the Tyler’s Kitty (Moss) and Josh (Tim Heidecker). Adelaide relents and the whole family goes off to the beach bringing back old memories and that same deep seeded fear in her. It becomes especially worse when her young son Jason wanders off causing her to worry. But, after Jason returns only having gone to the bathroom, they return home, prompting Adelaide to want to leave Santa Cruz and go back home. That night her son Jason notices four strangers standing out in their driveway. The strangers break into the house and hold the family hostage. The Wilson’s are shocked to discover that the people who have broken into their house looks, talks and knows a lot about them, only with grotesque appearances and a limited ability to speak. The doppelgangers than take each family member away to kill them. The Wilson’s escape and make their way to the home of the Tyler’s and are shocked to find that the Tyler’s were murdered by their own doppelgangers as well. The Wilson’s kill the Tyler’s doppelgangers and discover this sort of thing has been happening all over. But when Jason is kidnapped by her own doppelganger Adelaide goes after her son only to find out the shocking truth about what happened that night and why these events have happened!

Now, I know I ask this every week, but what do you think of this movie so far by my synopsis? Sounds a bit freaky, hey? Yeah, I have to say it was creepy and freaky. It also had a nice mix of humor put in to lighten the dark ominous tone! A unique story I would have to say, that was quite intriguing. The movie started off a little slow but did pick up and flowed nicely up to the eventual climax and ending that kind of throws you for a bit of a loop. The performances were decent for a scary movie, yet believable! Some of the dialogue could have been a touch better, but it was still good! All in all, a decent follow up to his hit movie Get Out, Jordan Peele has quite the knack for creating good scary movies and look forward to what he has next for us all! That is why I am giving Us a 7.4 on the Justin Scale Of Movies and putting it on my Pick-It list of movies to see in the theatre right now! That as they say in Hollywood my friends is a wrap on my latest movie review! But I will back next week for the last movie releases of March. Until then, remember to save me a good seat and keep that popcorn freshly popped, because I will be seeing you all again at the movies!
