Five Feet Apart Tugs At Your Heart!

Good day my friends! And a happy first day of spring to you all! Such a great feeling the first day of spring, the weather is warming up, snow is melting! After all that the grass will be turning green, the trees will get their leaves, all the animals will be out more. Just the image of new life all around and some would say that the spring also brings the possibility of new love as well!... It makes you think though just how precious life is. How when we see these things that we take for granted that we don’t know just how amazing life is! We all go on about our day to day lives and often complain about trivial little things. The thing that we often forget is that there are people out there that have medical conditions, that can keep them from enjoying these little things that we take for granted. They would love to do a lot of the things that we all can. And there are some that try because they never know when their last day will be. Even I forget this sometimes and we need a little reminder of that to shake us out of our own little world that we built. Now why am I talking about this you ask?... isn’t this supposed to be a movie review Justin? Yes, it is because the movie we are looking at this week is the romantic/drama called Five Feet Apart. The movie stars Haley Lu Richardson (Split) as Stella, Cole Sprouse (Riverdale)as Will, Moises Arias (Pitch Perfect 3) as Poe and Claire Forlani (Meet Joe Black) as Meredith. So, let us look at this movie to see if it steals our heart or just leaves us disappointed.

Since she was born Stella (Richardson) has been fighting Cystic Fibrosis, going through endless surgeries and treatments. Knowing that having CF is struggle to breath that the life expectancy is low, and any day could be her last! Her only hope for a longer life is the chance that she will get a lung transplant. To keep herself on that donor list there are strict rules she and other Cfer’s must abide by to avoid getting a, bacteria in their lungs that could not only take them off the donor list but also kill them. So, one of the main rules is that anyone who suffers from CF must stay 6feet apart from one another and wear a surgical mask along with a few other strict requirements to keep them safe. Along with that they must take medication and go through other treatments to help them breathe. Stella is in the hospital this time for her latest round of treatments to prepare her for a possible transplant should one become available. The hospital staff all know her, she has a friend Poe (Arias) who also suffers from CF who she communicates with through video messaging while they are taking their treatments. Stella keeps a very strict regimen to stay on top of her treatments, taking it very seriously. She also posts a regular Youtube video on her life with CF. But, when Will (Sprouse) arrives at the hospital for an experimental drug trial for his CF, Stella is at first irritated by Will’s lack of seriousness when it comes to his treatments. This bugs her so much that she can’t even concentrate on her own, so she makes a deal with him to help him regimen his treatments to give her piece of mind and in return she lets him draw a portrait of her. What starts out as two totally opposites people being irritated with one another turns into a romance. But Will and Stella can’t have the normal type of relationship like you and me! They must stay the required distance to keep from one another getting sick and to keep Stella on the transplant list. While Will is not able to be on that list because of the bacteria in his lungs he caught makes him ineligible for the rest of his life and more dangerous to be near one another. Will decides to keep his distance from Stella who has fallen for him and tired of all that CF has taken from her Stella decides to take one thing back and that’s one foot, she asks Will if he is willing to and he agrees while still following the other rules. But when a transplant becomes available Stella and Will’s relationship comes into question with Will encouraging Stella to take it even if it means that they can never be together.

Now I hope I got the synopsis right! But did not give too much away so that you would be surprised if you wanted to see it! You must excuse me if I forgot anything there, I saw the movie last night and sometimes it can be hard to remember most of the details of the plot. That being said I do have to say that this was a well-done movie! It had a great story that was very detailed with a nice mix of drama, light humor and romance. The performances were believable and heartwarming with well written characters that were perfectly brought to life by Haley Lu Richardson, Cole Sprouse and Moises Arias. You literally felt the emotion in this movie. It made you laugh, think and cry. And believe me you will cry my friends, I did! That is the sign of well written script mixed with a believable performance if a movie can do that! That is why I am giving a Five Feet Apart a 7.3 on The Justin Scale Of Movies and putting it on my Pick-It list of movies to see in the theatre. So, that is a wrap here on my end for my latest movie review! Until next time remember to keep that popcorn freshly popped and save me a good seat because I will be seeing you again at the movies!
