Good day my friends! Hope you all are having a great week! Well it
seems that a new month is upon us here. That’s right September has
come and gone and we have entered the month of October. We are
now 3 months away from the end of the year, with plenty of reviews to
come between now and than. Let us slow down a bit and just focus on
the month at hand here! With a new month means new movies on the
horizon which open tomorrow in theatres. So with this weeks review I
figured I would take a look at one of Septembers later releases that I
still hadn’t gotten around to seeing. This week we are taking a look at
the biographical drama White Boy Rick. This movie stars Matthew
McConaughey(Dallas Buyers Club) as Richard Wershe Sr., newcomer
Ritchie Merritt as Rick Wershe Jr., Bel Powley(Mary Shelly) as Dawn
Wershe and Jennifer Jason Leigh(Backdraft) as FBI Agent Snyder. So let
us go back to the 80’s to learn more about the story of White Boy Rick.
Back in the mid 1980’s the drug trade was huge with cocaine being the big player at the time. Than shorty after that crack cocaine reared it’s ugly head being sold addicting many. With the drug trade came the dealers many working kingpins in the city with tons of violence and death becoming the norm. In east Detroit lived the Wershe family Dawn( Powley) who was an addict herself, Rick Jr.( Merritt) who helped his father Rick Sr.(McConaughey) sell the guns he would buy at local Michigan gun shows and not always to the most respectable clientele. It is through this that Rick Jr. Became acquainted with local Detroit gangster Boo Curry. This would also lead him to becoming an undercover informant for the FBI to help put Curry and his associates behind bars. He did this to keep the FBI from going after his dads modified gun business. This would all lead to Rick Jr. being shot and almost killed, becoming a drug kingpin himself with contacts he made while undercover in order to get his family out of the gutter. Eventually

leading him to being arrested for drug trafficking and sentenced to life
in prison.
So! There you have it my friends! That is basically what this movie is all about. Now for the nuts and bolts on how this movie stacks up! Firstly I have to say that the performances here in this movie were pretty decent for the most part and had some powerful moments. But I would like to have seen a bit more detail on the characters, it just didn’t seem like there was enough. The story was good, even though it did drag in parts which made me look at my watch a couple of times during the movie. All in all not a bad movie, but it could have been a whole lot better to give this true story the proper attention it deserved. That is why I am giving this movie a 6.5 on the Justin Scale of Movies which puts it square on the Flick-It pile of movies to wait to see until it is out of theatres. That my friends is a wrap here on my latest review! Until next time remember to save me a good seat and keep that popcorn freshly popped because I will be seeing you again at the movies!
