Oceans 8 Keeps Up The Family Tradition

Good day my friends! It's that time of the week! My favourite day of the week! Well the second favourite day, sorry! The first would be Tuesday which is of course movie night and than would be today which is the day I give you my review on the latest movie at the theatre. With us actually getting closer to the first official day of summer. The movie studios are starting to ramp up the releases now! This week there were two movies that I wanted to see but as I have to get up early for work I had to flip a coin and choose which one to see. The winner of the coin toss was in fact the reboot of the Oceans 11 franchise Oceans 8. This time around instead of an all male crew of thieves as in the previous movies it is the ladies turn! This movie stars Sandra Bullock (The Blindside) as Debbie Ocean, Cate Blanchett(Carol) as Lou, Anne Hathaway(The Intern) as Daphne Kluger, Mindy Kaling(A Wrinkle In Time) as Amita,Sarah Paulson(The Post) as Tammy, Awkwafina(Neighbours 2) as Constance, Rihanna(Battleship) as Nine Ball and Helena Bonham Carter(The Kings Speech) as Rose Weil. The gangs all here so lets see if this group can steal our attention at the box office.

Debbie Ocean(Bullock) comes from a pretty well known family! A well known family of thieves that is, her brother Danny made a huge name for himself in the world of crime with some pretty daring and bold heists. But Danny is gone! he has passed away. Debbie like others in her family has chosen a career as a thief. But after trusting the wrong person who she also had a relationship with, she finds herself in prison for the past five years. With time on her hands Debbie plans the big heist to make a name for herself and get a little retribution if possible against the man who double crossed her and sent her to prison art dealer Claude Becker. As the day comes she is paroled from prison and quickly makes her way back to New York City and starts to settle back into her old life. She re-connects with her old friend in crime Lou(Blanchett) and tells her the plan she has in mind. You see Debbie plans to perform an impossible heist at the Met Gala. Her target a Cartier necklace worth $150,000,000 that she plans to steal off the neck of actress Daphne Kluger(Hathaway). But first she must get a crew of people to help pull this off, eight women in fact. Each with their own special talents in helping pull of this grand heist. With the crew of 8 assembled the women begin to put their heist plan into motion adapting it with each new complication that presents itself. With the big day here and all the players in place. Debbie and her crew go all in and to pull off a grand heist in true Ocean family fashion.

So what did you think from what you read in the synopsis? Still not sure well lets take a closer look at the movie and than you can decide after that! This was a fair movie in my personal opinion, a decent addition to this movie franchise. And I am not saying that because I am a fan of the previous movies. Now when you reboot a franchise you have to make sure you have a good enough story to do the franchise service. For this movie it did have a interesting story and the heist scene was pretty good as always in these movies. Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett did a good job in this movie and enjoyed their on screen chemistry. There were even had a couple of cameos from two cast members of the previous three movies. The story flowed along pretty well and had some good humour. Now those are the positives from this movie. I do have some negatives though!  Those being I thought the support cast could have been stronger with some of the characters like for example Rihanna's character Nine Ball which could have been casted with a more established actress. Also some of the supporting characters needed to be better developed. But that being said the movie was entertaining and did seem to work keeping me entertained. With all these pro's and cons(pardon the pun) weighed here I am going to be giving this movie a 6.8 on The Justin Scale Of Movies putting it on my Pick-It List of movies to see at the theatre because plain and simple I liked it! It is that other time my friends, time to call it a wrap on my latest movie review. As always remember to support the hard working people who are behind the scenes making theses movies and check out a movie in theatre and not download it illegally. Until next time keep that popcorn freshly popped and save me a good seat because I will be seeing you at the movies!
