Going On A Rampage

Good day my friends!.. Well it seems that we are at the halfway point in the month of April. And I have to say it has been a very back and forth type of month when it comes to movies and with the weather too! It just seems that when it comes to spring we would get a little taste and than right back into winter again with some heavy snowfalls and cold weather. It kind of reminds you of a movie franchise that just seems to keep making sequels even though people are sick of it! Now when it comes to the movies this month it would kind of take the same approach. You get some good ones to watch and than you would get some bad ones too mixed in there. Like the weather for a movie goer this can be quite maddening. But hey!. We are used to it right? Now to be honest I have seen only three movies at the theatre this past month so far. And with summer movie season on the horizon in just 9 days the April releases look to make an impact at the box office before the first big blockbuster comes out in full force with Avengers: Infinity War and leave a wake of destruction on other movies at the theatre. Now speaking of destruction this week we take a look at the action/adventure/sci-fi movie Rampage based on the old video game. It crashed its way into theatres this past weekend and took the top spot away from last weeks champ A Quiet Place. This movie stars Dwayne Johnson( Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle) who seems to have the golden touch these days as Davis Okoye, Naomie Harris(Spectre) as Dr. Kate Caldwell, Malin Akerman(Rock Of Ages) as Claire Wyden and Jeffrey Dean Morgan(The Walking Dead) as Harvey Russell. So what do you say lets take a look at this latest box office champ to see if it packs the punch to be on top.

A former government experiment known as Crispr that deals with genetic remapping was deemed dangerous by the U. S government and hence illegal has been alive and well in a space station orbiting the earth. But there was a reason that the experiment was abandoned and deemed restricted as a test subject rat has killed everyone on board causing the station to explode in space. But before the station was destroyed an escaping scientist saves three containers containing the samples of the illegal experiment which had been codenamed project Rampage due to the increased rage that occurs on the test subjects. Her escape pod explodes in the atmosphere after being badly damaged sending the three containers holding the Rampage experiment crashing to earth. At the San Diego Zoo primatologist Davis Okoye (Johnson) has always like animals better than people. It is evident in his relationship with George an albino gorilla with extraordinary intelligence that he has raised since birth after George's mother was killed by poachers. Both of their worlds are about to change as one of the three pods containing the Rampage experiment crashes into the gorilla enclosure radically transforming George in size and strength as well as aggression. The other two pods also crash into different parts of the country. One in Montana transforming a wolf and in Florida transforming an alligator. With word of Georges unique condition discredited genetic engineer Dr. Kate Campbell(Harris) goes to the zoo to see George and Davis to explain what is happening to the gorilla. But so does a government agent known as Harris(Dean Morgan) who sedates the George in attempts to bring him to a testing facility to correct the new threat that has been created by this experiment. Unbeknownst to them all the owner of the company responsible for the experiment and Kate's former boss Claire Wyden has set off a high frequency beacon to luring the animals towards the city of Chicago to test just how well the experiment works and to hopefully get a sample from one of the animals. With the 3 large genetically altered animals leaving a path of destruction in their wake it is up to Davis and Kate to try to secure the antidote, halt a global catastrophe and try and save the once friendly creature that was Davis's friend.

Well? How does that movie sound? Sounds kind of interesting and unique. Especially for a movie that is inspired by a video game. Well let’s take a deeper look at the nuts and bolts of this picture to see just how good it was! First I have to say it was an okay movie in my books. It had my complete and undivided attention which usually means it did do something right. Next it had a unique story idea on how to transform an old video game with no backstory like the ones do now into a movie. The good old genetic experiment route always seems to work and worked okay here. Now that being said I have to say that I felt the story was rushed making way for the large action scenes and CGI. The dialogue was cheesy and you could really tell. The characters I felt were a little bit better but they could have been developed better. The high point was the comedic relationship between Johnson and the gorilla George. Other than that this movie while okay mainly relied on Johnson’s star power and charisma to carry it. Not a great movie but a fair one. That is why I am giving it a 6.5 on The Justin Scale Of Movies but sorry to say putting it on my Flick-It pile of movies to wait to see out of theatres. Well that is a wrap here my friends on this latest review. Remember to go check out a movie at the theatre, there is nothing like the theatre experience online streaming can’t replace that! Also keep that popcorn freshly popped and save me a good seat because I will be seeing you at the movies!
