Black Panther Leaps Out Of The Comics And Onto The Big Screen

Good day my friends! Hope you've been doing well! Well it seems that we are almost done with the month of February as we are in the last full week of the shortest month. Now as I said in an earlier post that this month can often yield some okay movies, some bad movies and some really good ones. But like I also said this time of year is a slow point in the movie season, with the Oscars coming up and people just not too eager to go out into the February cold to go see a movie unless it really peaks their interest. I often think of this months movie releases as like how we describe the weather in March the whole in like a lion out like a lamb terminology with you having to get through some bad movies to get to the good one at the end. In the past few years we have had some big critical and box office hits in this month from John Wick to Deadpool there always seems to be that one movie that wows us and draws into the theatre. This time it was Disney and Marvel Studios latest addition to there franchise Black Panther. This movie is the last solo superhero movie that they are releasing before the much anticipated Avengers: Infinity War releases on May 5th to kick off the summer 2018 blockbuster season. This movie which is written by Joe Robert Cole and Ryan Coogler(Creed) who also directed the movie as well. The movie stars Chadwick Boseman(42) as T'Challa/Black Panther, Michael B. Jordan(Creed) as Erik Killmonger, Lupita Nyong'o(12 Years A Slave) as Nakia,Danai Gurira( All Eyez On Me) as Okoye, Martin Freeman(The Hobbit Trilogy) as Everett K. Ross, and Andy Serkis( Planet Of the Apes Trilogy) as Ulysses Klaue. So let us take a trip to continent of Africa and into the country of Wakanda and find out more about this fascinating superhero.

Warning: Spoiler alert! Wakanda a small un assuming yet secretive nation that every one thinks is nothing more than a bunch of poor farmers. But that is what they want you to think. You see in the countries distant past it was struck by a meteorite which was filled with the most powerful metal substance known to man Vibranium. Having fooled the rest of the world into thinking that there was only a small amount of it there and there is no more the Wakandans actually sit upon a large amount of the precious metal that spread all over beneath the country. The Wakandans hide this from the rest of the world and also the fact that with they are one of the most technologically advanced people on the face of the Earth. From the soil of Wakanda is also the heart shaped purple herb that gives the power of the Black Panther to it's Ruler. After the events of Captain America: Civil War Prince T'Challa(Boseman) of the small and reclusive country of Wakanda is on his way back home to take part in the ritual of making him the new king after his fathers death. But first he needs to find one his countries best warriors and the love of his life Nakia(Nyong'o) who has been out of the country trying to help others. Upon finding her she agrees to come back to the ceremony to support him. The ceremony allows anyone from the tribes of Wakanda to challenge the Prince for the right to the throne. But the Prince must do it without the powers of the Black Panther. As the T'Challa succeeds in becoming King it has come to his attention that an old elusive enemy of Wakanda Ulysses Klaue(Serkis) who stole a bunch of Vibranium in the past and killed many doing it has stolen a Wakandan artifact made of Vibranium and intends to sells it in Korea. T'Challa, Okoye, and Nakia head there to capture him and bring him back to Wakanda for justice. So along with some of their impressive tech and a new Black Panther suit made for him by his sister Shuri the countries tech genius they go to capture Klaue. Once there T'Challa runs into Everett K.Ross(Freeman) the American CIA agent he met when he captured Zemo in Captain America: Civil War who also intends on capturing Klaue. All hell breaks lose when Klaue recognizes the Wakandans and after a chase through the streets is captured. During some questioning a new enemy with a tie to the royal family breaks Klaue out injuring Ross who is taken back to Wakanda to be healed. Disappointed with not capturing Klaue and now searching for answers as to who this new enemy is he finds out it was a cousin he never knew he had Erik Killmonger(Jordan). He also learns that his long dead uncle had a son while living in Oakland as a spy for his country but betrayed his country when he helped Klaue get Vibranium out of Wakanda and that his father T'Chaka had killed his own brother in self defense. Soon enough Erik shows up at the Wakandan border with markings showing he belongs there and the body of Klaue who he killed. He is taken before T'Challa and the members of the royal council where he challenges for the throne as it his right being of royal blood. He succeeds in his challenge and becomes King after throwing T'Challa off a cliff into the river below. Erik is given the powers of the Black Panther and immediately has the supply of herbs burned but not before Nakia takes one and then sneaks T'Challa's mother and sister out of the city along with Ross out into the mountains to get the help of M'Baku and intends to give it to him to help stop Erik. You see Erik wants to ship Wakanda's Vibranium weapons out of the country to use as a tool to make Wakanda an empire and get revenge on those who oppressed his people. But as they get to the mountain fortress of M'Baku they find that T'Challa is alive but in a coma. They give the herb to him which heals him and gives him his powers back. So T'Challa goes back to face Erik and stop him before the fate of Wakanda and the rest of the world are put at risk.

So I hope I didn't make the synopsis too long and you quit reading? Well if you read the whole thing so far that must mean that you are interested! So my question, what did you think? Does it sound good to you? Well by reading this the movie sounds good to me! And from seeing it I can tell you that it was worth all the hype that it is getting from other critics. It started off a little slow I felt but it picked up right away. The story was good, it had a nice tone of equality in it's message. Now I have to admit I was not too familiar with this superhero but I am now! I loved how there was nice mix of humor in the script just like in past Marvel movies. The action sequences and special effects were fantastic! A pretty good effort on Ryan Coogler's part in directing his first fantasy/action movie as he has mostly directed dramatic movies. The cast was well assembled and fit their role perfectly and seemed to work well together. There was a particularly good chemistry between Chadwick Boseman's T'Challa and Letitia Wright who played his sister Shuri. She was a scene stealer in this movie with her energy and sharp wit! All in all a pretty decent movie. I enjoyed it and am giving it a 7.7 on The Justin Scale Of Movies and putting it on my Pick-It List Of Movies to see at the theatre. Well there you have it! That's a wrap on my latest movie review! Until next time keep that popcorn freshly popped and save me a good seat because I will be seeing you at the movies!
