Good day my friends! How are you all doing? Are you getting excited for Christmas? Yes it is only a week away! Man I know I love Christmas, it has to be hands down my favourite holiday. There just is something about Christmas that makes you feel like a kid again and warms your heart! The other thing that I like about this time of year is that there always seems to be some great new movies in the theatre for us to see. And more than likely we are usually treated to a big blockbuster release around this time of year. For a while it was The Hobbit trilogy of movies. Now thanks to the big movie making machine known as Disney we have the Star Wars films. Yes ever since disney bought the rights to Star Wars from George Lucas we are getting treated to some new movies from that universe the past three years. And like quite a few people out there in the world we are enjoying it! With line ups at movie theatres and sold out shows to go along with huge box office returns of over $200 million dollars in its opening weekend it is safe to say that Disney Studios has yet another blockbuster on its hands and they are laughing all the way to the bank! Seem alike lately Disney has become a veritable hit machine for movies. And this weekend they released their latest movie. The one everyone has been waiting for since the end credits of Star Wars The Force Awakens, the next movie in the franchise Star Wars the Last Jedi. This movie stars Carrie Fisher(Star Wars) in her last role before her untimely death as princess Leia, Mark Hamill( Star Wars, Kingsmen The Secret Service) as Luke Skywalker, Daisy Ridley(Murder On The Orient Express) as Rey, John Boyega(Detroit) as Finn,Oscar Isaac(X-men Apocalypse)as Poe Dameron,Adam Driver(The F Word) as Kylo Ren and Andy Serkis (War For The Planet Of The Apes) as Snoke. So let us go back once again to a galaxy far, far away and see what has been going on!
Picking up right where the last movie left us with Rey tracking down Luke Skywalker to get his help in fighting The First Order who have now taken control since the destruction of the Galactic Republic by The First Order and their weapon the Star Killer base. They have tracked down the resistance and are prepared to destroy them once and for all. After a daring escape plan that helps evacuate the resistance leaders and army Poe Dameron against orders takes out a First order Dread Knot ship at the expense of many lives from the resistance. Safely aboard the rebellion ship he is demoted by Leia and told that while he is a great pilot he has a lot to learn about being a leader.back on the planet of the first Jedi temple Rey is trying to convince Luke to come back with her with no luck as he has lost faith in the force and in being a Jedi ever since his nephew ben turned on him to the dark side and became Kylo Ren. Luke does discover Rey’s connection with the force but does not want to train anymore Jedi as he believes that it is time for the Jedi to die. But Rey doesn’t believe that and decides to stick around to keep trying to convince Luke to help her and the resistance. While there she discovers that she has a psychic link to Kylo Ren who has been filled with lots of conflict ever since he killed his father Han Solo. Back aboard the rebellion ship the rebellion while thinking they have gotten away from The First Order quickly discover that they haven’t as they have tracked through light speed. The First Order promptly attacks the rebel ships eliminating the leaders of the rebellion minus Leia who survives but is in a coma. The rebels are trapped and cannot afford to make another jump to light speed with heir fuel cells low and The First Order being able to track them through light speed it would be pointless and leave them defenceless against another attack. Luke impressed by Rey’s natural abilities and in hopes that she leaves agrees to teach her three lessons about the force and after the first lesson discovers that she has the same raw strength that Kylo Ren has promptly ending the lesson. Poe, Finn and a rebel by the name of Rose have a plan to stop the tracking device but it involves finding a code breaker and getting aboard one of the First Order ships to do so. So Rose and Finn do so while Poe takes command of the rebel ship from their new leader. While on the planet looking for answers about her abilities and her past Rey discovers what happened between Luke and Kylo Ren but nothing about her own past. Frustrated with Luke she leaves to go and help her friends escape from The First Order and Supreme Leader Snoke. Finn and Rose find a code breaker and they too are on their way back to disable the tracking system and Poe after a failed mutiny attempt is let in on the escape plan by a conscious Leia. Rey boards Snokes ship the same time that Finn ,Rose and the code breaker do all of them are captured Rey by Kylo Ren who takes her to Snoke. And Finn and Rose who are betrayed by the code breaker to General Hux and Captain Phasma. While all of this is going on the rebels escape on smaller ships to an old base used in the war against The Empire. But are soon discover and eliminated by The First Order. So with all hope seeming lost there are many questions as I am not going to give away the entire movie here. But let me say that there is a spoiler alert here. As Kylo Ren kills Snoke and takes command wanting Rey to join him but she refuses and escapes from a badly damaged First Order ship and so does Finn and Rose. to the plant where the rest of the Resistance is. They mount a daring defence against The First Order who want to eliminate them once and for all. With certain doom looming on the resistance Luke shows up to help the resistance escape to fight another day in a final show down with Kylo Ren. who has now taken command of The First Order.
So I didn’t want to give too much away because you have to see this movie for yourselves in order to see all that I was explaining here! But let me say this about this movie. It was in a single word Fantastic! I loved the story and plot line. The character details and background were wonderfully told for both new and old characters. The movie had quite a few surprises along the way here with even Rey’s parentage being revealed and let me tell you that it is not what you expected or what anyone was hoping it would be. This movie was both visually stunning and superbly written with great detail by Rian Johnson the director of this movie and co-writer after taking over from J.J Abrams. It was a great follow up to The Force Awakens. Now while some might not have thought it was as good as the last one I think it was right on par with it. It had a bit of a dark undertone in kind of like how Empire Strikes Back did. All in all this is a grey movie and I am giving it a 8.0 on The Justin Scale of Movies and putting it on my Pick-It List of movies to see at the theatres right now.
