Finding Your Parallel

Good day my friends! Wait! This isn't Wednesday! no you're not imagining things! You see you are getting a special treat, that's how much I appreciate you all my readers. This time though you are getting something a little different. But different is good! You know I started this blog six years ago because of my love for movies and was always asked what was a good movie to see. But from that a whole new me was born. The person that emerged was a someone who decided to throw off some of his fears and take more chances and someone who also works towards one day not just reviewing movies but writing them and helping create them. It's weird isn't it? That inside of us is someone who is totally opposite of what we are they could be more inhibited, calm, brave, afraid, smart, average, rich, poor, laid back or aggressive. They could be extremely good or evil. We have it inside of us to divide who we will and want to be. Bet you're wondering why I am saying this, well you should know me by now and know that it always has something to do with my lead in to our movie review. I said earlier that I had a special treat for you and I wasn't lying to you. This past week I received a message asking me to review a drama/mystery made in the UK and produced by Alexander Cooper and directed by Leva Makselyte  called Parallel which was released in 2016. This independent picture stars Daniel Westwood as Roy, Faye Sewell as Heather,Tasha Holz as Eve, Melissa Veszi as Anna, Brian Carter as Machlis and David Magowan who also wrote this little picture as Neil. Now let us sit back and relax in our comfy chair and find out just war this movie is all about. Heads up there will be a spoiler alert in my synopsis.

One night at a party Heather meets Neil who also happens to work at the same company as her. It is love at first sight for the young couple. The two find great happiness together in their whirlwind romance even moving in together. One day while on a walk back from a date they meet a man named Machlis. Heather finds out from the him that he is a psychic and she is intrigued and would like to get a reading from him. Machlis informs her that he does not take many clients but still gives her one of his  business cards when she ask for one. Neil does not believe in psychics and thinks that Machlis is a fraud and a con artist. But with Heathers coaxing they both go to see Machlis. They are informed by Machlis that he does not tell the future because it has not happened yet and that he does not talk to the dead. What he does do is show them their parallel life, their mirror image in a different reality who is them but the exact opposite of who they are. Heather goes first and is shown her parallel self who is a little more inhibited and brave but instead of being with Neil in that reality she is with a man named Roy. Intrigued to see more she goes back to Machlis for further trips into her parallel all the while hiding it from Neil who disapproves of it still believing Machlis is a fraud. Neil goes to confront Machlis and tells him to stay away from Heather and quit giving readings. He tells Neil to have a session and see for himself, that if Neil is not convinced than he will pack up and leave never to see Heather again. What Neil finds is that the old man was telling the truth and see's world where he is more aggressive and assertive most notably sexually in his life. He becomes addicted to this other life and comes back again for more sessions intoxicated by this other version of him even staring to want to be him causing problems between him and Heather. Heather on the other hand after seeing just how dark her parallel self is decides to end her sessions with Machlis. But Neil can't get enough and goes back again but when something happens to Machlis during their session, Neil crosses over to his parallel life unaware of the dangers it possesses.

Now I have to say after reading what this movie was about that I was intrigued because it sounded unique and interesting. Than after watching it my first impressions were proven right. This movie had a great story which was unique and loved the premise of being shown your alternate reality and a self that was the total opposite of you. It interested me and kept my eyes glued to my computer screen as I watched it waiting to see what would happen next. It was a smart, stylish and thrilling little movie. The switch from colour in the actual reality to black and white in the parallel reality was the perfect touch in showing good and evil in the characters lives as they went back and forth between realities. The characters were interesting and well performed being brought to life with just the right dialogue that well accompanied the action sequences. Now this is a movie with a smaller budget and not a big budget hollywood picture with its millions of dollars, big budget sets and huge special effects. No this movie with its small budget and no special effects pull off a fantastic picture filled with intrigue, thrills that also makes you think too! It is in the style of Christopher Nolan, David Fincher and the great Alfred Hitchcock. I enjoyed this movie and am giving it a 7.0 on the Justin Scale Of Movies and putting it on my Pick -It list of movies for you to check out. Well that's a wrap here my friends on  this latest movie review. So until next time save me a good seat sand keep that popcorn freshly popped and I will see you next time at the movies.
