We Return To The Future With Blade Runner 2049

Good day my friends! Hope you had a great week since I last spoke to you. I know mine was pretty decent. I spent it celebrating Thanksgiving here this past weekend up here in Canada. It was a pretty good time. Usually with family it can be a pretty memorable time. Those are times that we must cherish. All those great memories will last a life time after all the money and worries of the world have long since passed. No families are perfect and no person is either! It is on those days that we must put all those petty differences or issues we have with one another and just share a nice meal and some laughter. Enjoy those days and not complain about this person or that person, let go of the worries of trying to make a perfect meal not everything can be perfect. Fun times cannot be controlled or planned out on a schedule. Embrace the chaos that life throws at you, go with the flow and just laugh. We only get one turn around the sun, make the best of it, make wonderful memories, laugh, love, take risks, run against the wind and most of all have fun. That I think are the most important things to do not just at holidays but in everyday life. Sure not all things are perfect, but guess what? They don’t have to be! They say that there are two things in life that are certain and those are death and taxes. And believe me these days we seem to be a little sick of the taxes! Seems every time we turn around we are being taxed for something new. But there is also one other thing for certain in this life and that is so long as there are creative voices you will always have entertainment . The movies in particular with so many being made on a yearly basis and there always being multiple new releases at the theatre each week are always a certainty. Now I now as i am reading this I noticed that i have rambled off here a bit with most of what I am saying not entirely dealing with my review yet. But don’t worry as anyone who has read my reviews knows this a norm for me. So to get back on track I say that I tell you what movie we are looking at this week. This week we are looking at the movie Blade Runner 2049 a sequel to the cult classic Blade Runner made back in 1982 by Ridley Scott. After 35 years the sequel everyone was waiting for finally made its way to the big screen. This time around it is director Denis Villeneuve(Arrival) taking us to the future and bringing along Ryan Gosling(The Nice Guys) as K, Ana de Armas(War Dogs) as Joi, Robin Wright(Wonder Woman) as Lieutenant Joshi and of course you couldn’t have this sequel without the original Blade Runner Harrison Ford(Star Wars)  as Rick Deckard. Let us take a seat and return to the futuristic world of the replicants.

Thirty years after the events of the first Blade Runner movie the world has changed some since than. Replicants are still considered illegal, the world’s ecosystem has collapsed, the Tyrell Corporation who created the replicants has gone bankrupt and was bought out by the Wallace Corporation. Detective Rick Deckard(Ford) has disappeared and not been seen for 30 years. The Wallace Corporation founder Niander Wallace(Jared Leto) has created a new type of replicant that is more obedient than the older models from the Tyrell Corporation to which he sells to other colonies as service labour and has made replicants somewhat legal on Earth. So now the older Nexus 8 models are hunted down and deactivated by a Blade Runner who also happens to be a replicant named K(Gosling). While on his latest case K discovers a buried military locker containing the bones of a replicant. But what he finds out is that he discovered a long hidden secret in those remains. For in those remains it is discovered that this replicant had in fact given birth to a child which is unheard of. A miracle in fact, but this type of information could plunge the world into chaos. Replicants were never meant to reproduce naturally like humans. So K is ordered to find the child and eliminate it and all traces of that it ever existed. What he doesn’t know is that his investigation has garnered the interest of The Wallace Corporation and it’s founder who has tried to create his replicants with a means of reproduction. And Wallace will do whatever it takes to find the miracle child to create his perfect replicant. The closer K gets to the truth the more he begins to question his own existence and purpose. Eventually leading him on a search to find Deckard to get more answers to the questions he has. But with Wallace’s own lethal replicant on the hunt for Deckard as well it is up to K to stop them from finding the child and keeping this secret from the world.

Well I can tell you this my friends this movie was pretty good! Words escape me here in describing how good it was. I was blown away! The movie grabbed you from the beginning and didn’t let go.Having seen the original I would have to say that this movie stayed true to the things that made the first Blade Runner so popular. With a run time of 2hrs and 44min the movie didn’t seem to lose you at all telling a wonderfully pieced sci-fi/mystery/thriller. The script was perfectly done not leaving out any details. It did a fine job picking up where the last one left off and can even say it has surpassed the original and that was hard to do. The characters were smartly written and well performed. Director Denis Villeneuve created a masterpiece here and has become one of the great directors with this motion picture with re-creating the a bleak and distant future. There is not much bad I could say about this movie it was in fact perfectly crafted, written, brought to life by the actors, actresses ,the director and all technical crew involved. This movie I am going to give a solid 8.6 on The Justin Scale Of Movies and put it on my Pick-It List of movies to see at the theatre right now. I guess that’s a wrap here on my latest review my friends. So until next time keep the popcorn popped, save me a good seat and i will see you next time at the movies.
