The Foreigner Comes To Town

Good day my friends! As promised and also like clockwork I am back for my latest movie review. Aren’t you lucky? You get two reviews in a matter of 3 days. It’s not unusual for me to do it, after all I have done this before in the past! I was recently asked how can I keep this up? Don’t I just want to take a break and rest rom all this writing that I have been doing? Well there is just one simple answer for that. You see in the past I did so many of these things that i even gave up on it. Taking many breaks and even losing followers because of my inconsistency. Even in my other writing dream of creating and completing a full screenplay I had given up on for a while. Call it just being complacent, lazy, fear and losing motivation. I was lost searching for meaning, searching for that spark of inspiration again. That one thing that would light a fire under me to not give up on myself and my dreams. To continue my writing and not lose focus. It was than something inside of me just switched gears after I finished running my first ever full marathon. That’s when I said to myself “hey if I can do this as hard as it was with many times along the race to have a chance to quit that I kept going even when my leg cramped up and still managed to cross that finish line with what I had left in me” ! Yes it is our perseverance that pays off! To keep trying every time we fall down. To move forward, because we will make lots of mistakes over and over again. But we must still believe in ourselves and keep trying because that is how we eventually we succeed. We all face them, those insurmountable odds that we place against ourselves. But it is how we choose to react to them that makes us stronger. It is by working on your craft everyday that makes you better at it. And that is why I don’t choose to take a break from this or any other writing project I have.I am tired of just going through life by simply just existing and I want to share my talent with the world to hopefully make it a better place. Now back to our regular scheduled program! Our latest movie review. This week the master returns to the big screen with his latest movie. It has been a while since we have seen him. The movie I am talking about is The Foreigner. And the actor I am talking about is the legendary Jackie Chan(Rush Hour trilogy) as Quan Ngoc Minh and Pierce Brosnan(Goldeneye) as Liam Hennessy. So let us sit back and see what this movie is all about.

Quan(Chan) is a humble businessman of a local Asian restaurant in London who while taking his teenage daughter to buy a dress for a big dance at school is the victim of a senseless act of terrorism when a bomb blows up outside of the dress shop killing 11 people including his own daughter, the only family he had left in this world. Claiming responsibility for the bombing is a group calling themselves the authentic IRA. This bombing threatens to break the peace accords made between the British government and the IRA. Member of parliament Liam Hennessy(Brosnan) in Belfast is called upon to find out who these people are because of his past affiliations with the IRA. For his help in finding them Liam wants the government to issue pardons to a group of IRA members. But what the British government doesn’t know is that Liam set up this group to carry out some small attacks to get these pardons. But he did not want them to take any lives as he has seen his share of bloodshed from his past and does not wish to see it again. He calls upon his former colleagues from the IRA to see who was missing bomb supplies from one of there dumping sites in order to find the mole who decided to take this farther than it was supposed to. What he doesn’t count on is Quan whose long buried secret past comes out in a revenge fuelled vendetta to find the bombers and extract his own justice upon them. Quan’s search for the bombers leads him to Liam and begins a cat and mouse conflict with him. Liam wants him gone and out of Ireland so that he can still accomplish his objective but every man he sends after Quan is soundly beaten back by the 62 year old man. Quan just wants the names of the bombers from Liam who he knows Liam has.  As the game intensifies secrets come out on both sides and justice is eventually exacted.

Wow! That is all I have to say after seeing this movie last night my friends! I was going in expecting to see the usual Jackie Chan action movie. But what I got here was much more this movie had a really good script. The story for this movie worked really well it had it’s main plot of Quan’s quest for justice but it also had the subplot of Liam’s past affiliations with the IRA. We were treated to information about the characters which made the movie even more engaging. I could not take my eyes off the screen. The time just seemed to fly by with every twist and turn in this movie. Chan’s character had more depth than some of his previous movies which made you feel for him in the loses that he has experienced in his life. This movie was well acted with both the antagonists being very menacing and believable and the protagonist being quiet and unassuming but yet sad and dangerous. I would have to say this was one of Chan’s best performances by far. This movie started off strong and didn’t let go until the end with all the intrigue, depth, action, twists and turns. I am going to be putting this one on my Pick-It List of movies to see in the theatre. it was not you prototypical action movie. It was more of an action drama given to us by director Martin Campbell(Casino Royale). This movie gets a 7.5 on The Justin Scale Of Movies from all the strengths it has. Well there you have it my friends! That’s a wrap here on my end for this latest movie review. So until next time kep that popcorn freshly popped and save me a good seat and I will see you next time at the movies.
