The Terror In Space Continues With Alien:Covenant

Good day my friends! Hope you have all been doing well and enjoying some of the nice weather that this season brings. The other thing that it brings is loads of summer movies that full of laughs, thrills, chills and tears. Hard to believe that it almost June and we are going to be done our first month of summer movies with one week to go! Now the movies has a way of taking us to many far away places telling us  interesting stories in whatever genre interests you. Now at this time of the year you mostly find a lot of movies full of action and adventure to go along with the excitement and adventure that summer brings. Well this week the movies are taking us on a trip to outer space, a place that many movies seem to be as it is such a wondrous and fascinating place. This week we are going back to the world showed to us by director Ridley Scott as he takes us back to the terror of deep space in Alien:Covenant. The film stars Michael Fassbender(X-Men: Days Of Future Past) in dual roles of the android David from his role in Prometheus and of Walter another android. So let us go back to the terror of deep space and still see that in space no can hear you scream!

While on the way to a new planet to colonize it, the ship Covenant is damaged in a storm in space and losing their captain in the process along with a bunch of colonists. About seven years from their destination the remaining crew set out to make repairs and get back on course. After getting the ship up and running again they find a transmission that appears to be human coming from a nearby planet that appears to be inhabitable. Against the better judgement of crew woman Daniels(Katherine Waterston) the new acting captain Oram(Billy Crudup) decides to check out this planet to find the source of the signal and see if this planet could possibly be a better place for their colony. At first when they land what they find is a paradise that looks perfect for them to inhabit and continue to search they find a crashed alien ship that was piloted by Dr.Elizabeth Shaw from the missing Prometheus crew. With no signs of life they continue to search but as they search two of their crew members are infected with a alien spore that spawns an aggressive life form from their bodies. As some crew members are killed and their landing vessel destroyed by the creatures the remaining crew members are attacked by the creatures and eventually saved by the android known as David who is more human than android. They go with David(Fassbender) to a dead alien city in hopes to contact their ship to send a rescue shuttle. What they find there is far more dangerous than what they just encountered and must attempt a harrowing escape from the planet with their lives.

So there is the basic outline what the movie is about. Now comes the fun part and that is telling you what I thought about it and what I rate it! Firstly I have to say I was intrigued to see this movie, I had reviewed the previous movie Prometheus back in 2012 and I thought that one was okay. After having seen this movie I have a few thoughts. Firstly I liked the plot of the movie and how the scenes all seemed to connect nicely making it a pretty good story. But there were some slow points it seemed in a couple of scenes. The characters were good with some detail to them. The interesting part was of Michael Fassbender's portrayal of two androids with different personalities one more creative, free thinking you could say more human. The other Walter the android from the ship Covenant who less free thinking and more protective of his crew and obedient. A truly great performance by him in those dual roles. Liked how the build up to eventual appearance of the alien that we were all waiting for was orchestrated. The story made you wait for it, and showed you a different creature first and than eventually the one we were waiting for and an explanation on how it came to be. All in all a pretty decent movie here, there were the obvious scenes that you would know who was going to die but it was still good and enjoyed it. So I am going to be giving Alien:Covenant a 7.1 on the Justin Scale Of movies and make it the latest addition to my Pick-It list of movies to see in the theatre. Well that is a wrap here my friends on this latest review, until next time keep that popcorn freshly popped and I will see you next time at the movies.

  1. The two androids with different personalities and motives was done on Star Trek: TNG with Data and Lore, so I thought that was kind of done already. It was a decent movie that fit nicely into the Alien moviescape, but I wonder if Covenant was really necessary. Thanks for your thoughts, Justin!
