Unearthing Pompeii

Good day my friends! Welcome back and thank you for viewing my page and reading my reviews including the one in which you are currently reading. Well another week is upon us and the movie releases keep coming as we get closer to the end of the month of February. The end kind of an ironic thing for me to say with the movie that I have chosen for this week. You see for this weeks movie review I have chosen the movie Pompeii which was directed by Paul W.S Anderson( Boogie Nights). This movie stars Kit Harington(Game Of Thrones) as Milo, Emily Browning( Sucker Punch) as Cassia and Kiefer Sutherland( 24) as Corvus. Well we have our ticket, our seat, some snacks and the lights are going down as the movie is about to begin. So let us sit back, relax and see if this movie survives or is buried beneath a pile of ash just as the ancient city of Pompeii was.

Seventeen years after his entire family was killed by Roman soldiers in Brittainia a young man Milo( Harington) also known as the Celt fights as a gladiator for the Roman Empire. Having shown some great talent he is bought and taken to the Roman city of Pompeii which nestled at the base of Mt. Vesuvius. He is taken there to compete in the games against the city's champion Atticus. It is on the road to Pompeii that Milo first meets Cassia( Browning) the daughter of  the local Governor who is on her way back from Rome early, it is love at first sight for them. But as Cassia returns home surprising them with her early arrival, two other surprises await. The first being Corvus ( Sutherland) a corrupt Senator from Rome who has come to Pompeii to inspect a possible investment in the city for the Emperor who also happens to be the man who killed Milo's family. And the second being more deadly as the the mountain starts to rumble preparing itself for it's eventual eruption. Milo is taken along with a few of the other gladiators to a party to be sold to rich noble women for pleasure. It is there that Milo and Cassia meet again and when her horse is spooked by the rumblings of the mountain Cassia asks for the help of Milo to calm down the animal to which the two lovers run off on horse back only to be found by the Roman army. To save Milo's life Cassia tells them that Milo actually saved her life after the horse got spooked. But Milo is lashed for this still and sentenced to die in the arena by Senator Corvus who has agreed to invest in the town and not have Cassia's parents killed for supposedly speaking out against the Emperor if Cassia agrees to marry him. But just as Milo defies the Senator and survives death in the arena Mt. Vesuvius erupts with such force and while the city of Pompeii is being destroyed and people are dying. Milo races to save Cassia who has been taken by the Senator to her home to be taken back to Rome with the Senator before the mountain fully erupts and kills them all.

Well this sounds like quiet the movie doesn't it? Well let us just take a closer look at the movie and see just how good it really is! Now I must say that when it comes to positives on this movie it would have to be the special effects of the mountain erupting and a story that had some potential from the start to be pretty good. But alas that did not happen  as the movie went on the story got weaker and needed more development especially when it comes to the characters. It just seemed so rushed to get us to the eruption and destruction of Pompeii. The acting was also fairly weak and could have been so much better. Quite frankly I was expecting so much more from this movie which had so much potential but in the end fell flat.

Well the movie is almost done my friends so before the credits roll and the lights come up we better get to my final rating on this movie. So for the movie Pompeii it didn't take me too long to come up with my decision on what I should give it. Now based on what I said earlier I think it is only fair to give this movie a 6.8 on The Justin Scale Of Movies. This puts Pompeii on the Flick-It pile and would be better to wait tip this one comes out on DVD to see it!

Now the credits are rolling and the lights have come up in the theatre, people are making their way out . So I guess it is time to call it a wrap on this latest movie review my friends. Until next time Good Morning, GoodAfternoon, Good Evening and as always Good Viewing I will see you next time at the movies!
