Undercover With Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit

Good day my friends, well it is that time once again. Yes that is right it is time for another movie review for you all. Yup I am staying on task and trying to be more consistent with my reviews just like when I first started this blog.Obviously my passion for it is back and so is my focus. So enough of me babbling on about myself and boring all of you. You came here for me to give you a movie review and that is exactly what I am going to be giving you here. With this weeks review we are taking a look at the the re-boot of the Jack Ryan movies based on the character created by the late Tom Clancy called Jack Ryan:Shadow Recruit. The movie stars Chris Pine( Star Trek) as Jack Ryan who is the fourth person to play the title character the others being Alec Baldwin( Hunt For Red October), Harrison Ford( Patriot Games & Clear And Present Danger) and Ben Affleck( The Sum Of All Fears). The movie also stars Kevin Costner( Bull Durham) as Thomas Harper, Keira Knightly( Pirates Of The Caribbean 1-3) as Cathy Muller and Kenneth Branagh( Valkyrie) as Viktor Cherevin and Branagh also directed this movie. Well lets not waste any more time here the clock is ticking and the previews are almost finishing  so lets see just how this movie stacks up but first lets find out what it is all about.

After seeing the terror attacks in New York on 9/11 Jack Ryan(Pine) leaves college where he was studying economics and joins the marines. But when his chopper is shot down in Afghanistan while on route to a mission  Jacks' back is broken but he does manage to pull two people out of the chopper with his back broken. He is air lifted in time to fix his back so that he might walk again. With his back repaired Jack must go through rehab to walk again and that is where he meets two people that will change his life. One is Cathy Muller(Knightly) a medical student who is working with Jack on his rehab and later on will become his girlfriend. The other is Thomas Harper( Costner) who works for the CIA and recruits Jack to work for them as an analyst by paying for Jack to finish his degree and then placing him in a firm on Wall Street to look for suspicious investments that could be made by terrorists. Ten years after taking the job with the CIA Jack is working on Wall Street and dating Cathy who is now a doctor but he must keep his life with the CIA a secret from her unless they are married to which she keeps refusing. But all secrets come to an end and this one would with Jack noticing suspicious moving of funds by a Russian businessman named Viktor Cherevin( Branagh) and even more suspicious is that he can't access these files. having informed his superiors at the CIA Jack is sent to Moscow to investigate further. But Cherevin is on to him as the person who was sent to escort him from the airport and keep him safe tries to kill him with no success. Jack shaken up a little from having killed a man now must go and find out about what Cherevin is up to. But any chance of a trace of the funds is met made impossible and to make matters worse Cathy has come to Moscow to surprise Jack and he must tell her the truth about who he really works for.To get any information about what Cherevin is up to jack must break into Cherevin's highly secure office to access his files. And he accomplishes this by having Cathy keep him busy while they were all at supper. With their lives in danger as Cherevin knows that they stole information from his  computer Cathy is abducted but rescued by Jack. After finding out that the plan was to cripple the US economy completely through mass panic all kicked off by a terror attack Jack must figure out where it will all happen and help to stop it.

Well that was quite the plot synopsis hey? So now that, that part is done and that the movie is almost over I guess I should  get to my thoughts on this movie here. Now having seen the past four movies based on the Tom Clancy character I would have to say that while this movie did have its good moments it wasn't overly that strong. While the story was promising it did have a few holes in it and seemed kind of rushed if you ask me. The performances were average to tell you the truth, I think the dialogue written could have been a little bit stronger. The villain was not used overly well, like I said before everything seemed rushed including characters. A stronger script would have been better for such talented actors used in this movie. While the chemistry of Costner and Pine was good this movie could have been better.

Now with that all said and done it is time for me to give you what you came for and that is my rating on this movie. So let us not waste anymore time here and get down to brass tacks shall we? After seeing this movie and thinking about it I am giving this movie a 6.4 on the Justin Scale Of Movies. Now that is  an okay rating but not great and the rating has to be great to get the honours of the next part. And that part is this, I putting this movie on my Flick-It pile. It was okay but just not good enough to make it to the Pick-It pile. This movie just might best be waited to be viewed on dvd.

I guess the movie is all done my friends. The theatre is clearing out and the lights have come up so maybe I should get my sorry behind out of here. Until next time my friends that is a wrap on this weeks movie review. So Good Morning, Good Afternoon, Good Evening and as always Good Viewing.
