Attention! White House Down

Good day my friends hope you are all having a great start to your summer and going out and enjoying all the nice sunshine. Living up here in Saskatchewan I take advantage of when we get nice sunny weather because our winters seem to last so long and can be so bitterly cold at times. But hey that is winter this is summer and the summer movie season just keeps on rolling right along as well. Now I know there is lots to do in the summer go to the lake checkout events going on in the city, so, so many things that can be done but I still love going to the theatre to check out some of the latest movies to hit theatres.This week we are taking a look at the latest big  action movie to explode onto the big screen courtesy of none other than director  Rolland Emmerich ( Independence Day) who seems to love blowing things up in his movie just as much as Michael Bay does! This week take a look at the movie White House Down starring Channing Tatum ( 21 Jump Street)  as John Cale and Jamie Foxx ( Ray) as President James Sawyer. Well let's go and see just what can happen when the White House is taken hostage, so our seats are chosen , the snacks are bought lets sit down and enjoy this movie.

Divorced capitol policeman John Cale( Tatum) is looking for a career change and hopes to be a member of the secret service detail that helps to protect the President. He is close to his dream a he has an interview at the White House with the secret service and gets an extra pass for his daughter who is a big fan of the president and of politics in general. Having been told by agent Finnerty( Maggie Gyllenhall) that he does not qualify for the position John is a bit despondent and does not tell his daughter that he didn't get the job. But instead of leaving they take a the White House tour, but while on the tour a bomb goes off in the Capitol building which is used as a diversion to aid some armed mercenaries disguised as repairmen to take control of the White House. These men are aided by agent Walker ( James Woods) the outgoing head of the secret service detail who needs President Sawyer ( Fox) alive. You see this attack has something to do with the Presidents plan of pulling troops out of Iran and creating a chance for peace in the middle east. While the White House is taken hostage along with all those inside including John and his daughter . But while John's daughter Emily has gone off to use the washroom when this all happens John escapes from the hostage takers to find his daughter and finds himself saving the President. While fighting off the mercenaries John attempts to keep the President safe and save his daughter before the Pentagon decides to destroy the White House and everyone in it.

Wow this movie is just chocked full of action and adventure! Let's take a closer look at this movie shall we to see just how good it is. This movie while many others have said it was not that good was in fact entertaining. Now I know we have already seen one movie like this this year already with Olympus has Fallen but this one while having the same plot premise of the White House being taken over by terrorists has different plot line. I found the story to be both interesting and entertaining with a nice mix of humour and action. The characters were also well written and the chemistry between Tatum and Fox was fun to watch. A pretty decent movie in the long run with a few weak points such as much as Channing Tatum's charisma and humour worked for his character here I just had a little trouble buying him as an action hero.

Well that's pretty informative and while this movie is almost finished along with our popcorn and drink its time for us to rate this movie. So it seems that after weighing all the pro's and cons and thinking about this for a day I have finally come up with my final rating for this movie. My final rating for the movie White House Down is a 6.9 on the Justin scale of movies . This of course puts this movie in the Pick-It pile a very entertaining action movie with some humour added to the mix a pretty good bet when spending your hard earned money for a night out at the movies.

The movie has ended, people are leaving and our snacks are finished so I guess we should be leaving too. As we make our way out of the theatre and call it a wrap on this latest review I would just like to say thank you for reading my reviews this past year it has been a treat writing them for you all.
