Octobers DVD Pick Is 1978's Halloween

Good day my friends and welcome back for this months DVD pick , with this months pick we go back to 1978 and choose a classic . We go back and choose John Carpenter's horror most well known movie one that several sequels after it including a remake by Rob Zombie. This month we pick the movie Halloween which has always been one of my favourites to watch around this time of the year not just because Halloween is in October. I would have to say because there is just something kind of spooky about this time of year maybe it is the leaves all falling to the ground , the days being shorter or the cold chilly wind and a gray cloud covered sky. That is the reason's for me but lets get back to the movie shall we , this movie starred Jamie Lee Curtis ( Trading Places, A Fish called Wanda) who was known as the scream queen at the time as Laurie Strode and Donald Pleasance ( You Only Live Twice ) as Dr. Sam Loomis. So a cold chill is running down our backs as a feel someone is watching us even stalking us and we may have to run for our lives so lets be careful out there for someone is after us.

In 1963 on Halloween night in the small town of Haddonfield Illinois 6 year old Michael Myers with a blank , cold , expressionless look on his face grabs a butcher knife and brutally stabs his sister Judith to death in her upstairs bedroom. Now 15 years have passed and Michael has been institutionalized in a state mental hospital quietly waiting . On his way to the hospital is Dr. Sam Loomis  ( Pleasance) Michael's psychiatrist who has come to take Michael to a court hearing so that he will be locked away for the rest of his life as he fears the the evil that he noticed that lurks within Michael. As he approaches the gate to the hospital with the nurse hr notices the patients running around freely so he runs to the gate to call the guards but as he does this Michael attacks the nurse in the car and while she escapes unharmed Michael steals the car and escapes. Dr. Loomis fearfully knows in his heart where Michael is heading and that is back home to Haddonfield and immediately leaves to the town to help the police find him. Unknown about the evil that has arrived in town is 17 year old Laurie Strode ( Curtis) the daughter of a local realtor who is going to be babysitting on halloween along with her best friend Annie whom Michael has set his sights on. As the night carries on and people already having been murdered , Dr. Loomis' desperate search for Michael continues before the killer strikes again .

Well someone is still urging in the shadows watching us and waiting for the right moment to do something I can just sense it. This move is quit possibly one of the best examples of independent film , it had a well written story line with great psychological elements such as the killer stalking his intended victims very subtly before he killed them and when he did appear to kill them he truly scared you. The hauntingly scary music went well with this movie which leaves you humming it after seeing this movie. The setting of the quiet little street in this small town was perfectly picked and used really effectively to set the mood. Last and certainly not least the actors did a really good performance in this movie with Donald Pleasance playing his role of the psychiatrist who fear his own patient and Jamie Lee Curtis showing us why they named her the scream queen but yet giving us wonderful portrayal of her character Laurie.

So we survived the police managed to catch the killer before he could get us and that brings us to this moment my rating of this movie. For this month's dvd pick I give Halloween a 8.5 on the Justin scale  it is a must watch if you haven't seen this classic movie for many reasons all of which I have listed above. Now what are you waiting for if didn't see this movie at all than I suggest you should and if you have than maybe this makes you want to watch it again.

There you have it my DVD pick of the month for October so I guess this means the time has come to call it a wrap. Until next time my friends Good Morning , Good Afternoon , Good Evening and as always Good Viewing I will see you all again at the movies.
