Running The Campaign

Hello my friends and good day to you all , well another week is here and so is another one of my movie reviews . With this weeks review we are going to laugh a little as we take a look at the more humorous side of the politics as we review the new comedy The Campaign which stars Will Ferrell ( Old School) as congressman Cam Brady and Zach Galifinakis (The Hangover) as his opponent Marty Huggins. So I guess we should get right down to here as the election is underway and the polls are about to open , let's pay close attention to see who will win.

In North Carolina congressman Cam Brady ( Ferrell) is about to win his 5th term in congress and is going to do it unopposed . When he commits a major public faux pas the greedy Motch brothers ( Dan Aykroyd & john Lithgow) see an opportunity to unseat the congressman with a candidate of their own to help push through a controversial piece of legislation . Their choice for this job is gullible tour guide in Hammond North Carolina Marty Huggins ( Galifinakis) who comes from a family with numerous political ties. Marty at first seems hopeless and makes Cam Brady's re-election look like a sure thing but with the help of his greedy rich backers , a ruthless campaign manager who always seems to be around named Tim Wattley ( Dylan McDermott) , Marty is transformed into a ruthless opponent. With Marty's numbers rising Cam can't seem to do anything right as his numbers start to fall as he makes to many mistakes in his re-election campaign. So the early numbers are in and it looks like the incumbent is in the lead so far , let's keep watching to see what the outcome will be.

First of all let me say that I thought Will Ferrell and Zach Galifinakis make one hell of a comedy duo in this movie and play off each other really well. With Ferrell playing this satirical political role kind of reminds me when he used to impersonate George W. Bush on SNL but the character he portrays here is more like a mixture of Bush and Clinton with a touch of Ferrell mixed in there it was very funny. Galifinakis was equally funny with his odd yet naive portrayal of his character who you couldn't help but bust a gut laughing at. The supporting cast was great as well especially having two comedy legends such as John Lithgow and Dan Aykroyd  as the greedy Motch brothers and Dylan McDermott was hilarious as Marty Huggins campaign manager. I felt Jason Sudeikis was not as strong as he could have been but he was alright. The story itself was good too it had tons of laughs in it as it took politics and made it look so completely ridiculous by taking all the things that politicians do and shouldn't do to get elected and poke some fun at it.

Well the numbers are close but I believe we will soon have a clear winner in this election very soon. Now here comes the part you have been waiting for and that is my rating on this movie , so it is time to give it to you and when it comes  to The Campaign it gets a 7.4 on The Justin Scale . This of course will make it a Pick-It movie as I couldn't stop laughing at this movie and is definitely worth a trip to the theatre to see it.

And the numbers are all in, the ballots have all been counted and the incumbent has been defeated. With that all said it is time to call it a wrap on this weeks review so as always Good Morning , Good Afternoon , Good Evening and as always Good Viewing I will see you all again at the movies.

  1. Nice review Justin. Everybody here does fine with their comedic timing, it’s just that the comedy isn’t all that funny to begin with. There are some inspired spots of comedy here and there, but nothing all that special to write home about.
