Racing For July's DVD Pick Of The Month With Seabiscuit

Good day my friends and welcome to the DVD pick for the month of July, with this months pick we are attending a horse race. This month we have picked for you the powerful and moving story of the little horse that not only lifted the spirits of a nation but also the spirits of those closest to it the story of Seabiscuit. This movie stars Tobey Maguire ( Spiderman) as Red Pollard , Jeff Bridges ( Ironman) as Charles Howard and Chris Cooper ( American Beauty) as Tom Smith. Well the horses are at the starting gate and ready to go so lets get this race under way.

In the 1930's when the great depression was going on, people were out of work   and their spirits broken comes the story of a legend, the story of heart and perseverance . When Charles Howard ( Bridges) a former bicycle repairman turned automobile tycoon loses his son in a car accident and then his wife leaves him it seems his world has come crashing down around him. Then while in Mexico to get a quick divorce Howard meets Marcela ( Elizabeth Banks ) who helps him heal his broken heart and the two eventually get married. One of the things that this new love brought out was the need to buy a race horse and have it compete but first a trainer was needed and Howard found one in Tom Smith ( Cooper) a man who lost the open range with advent of the automobile and the roads created because of them. Smith helped the Howards look for the right horse one that would not back down from a fight and he found it in a small colt named Seabiscuit a horse sired from a champion racehorse but was considered to small and lazy to be a champion. The little horse was beaten repeatedly to break the laziness out of him and was eventually used as a training horse to lose to bigger faster horses and then when he was put into races he did what he was always trained to do and that was lose , he soon became fierce and mean from all of this just the quality Smith was looking for. Now having a horse and a trainer all that was left was to find a jockey and that person was found in Red Pollard a man who had been racing horses his entire life but was blind in one eye.Through this entire story shows Seabiscuits battles with his great rival War Admiral and the quest to win the Santa Anita Handicap a race which Red first lost all the while showing the perseverance of the human spirit in a time of need and the little horse that helped save them all.

The horses are out of the gate  and making their way down the track this is going to be one hell of a race  with Seabiscuit making his way through the rest of the pack trying to catch the leader. This movie was fantastic from start to finish with a great story that had a nice mix of heart and drama throughout it.The acting in was well done from all the actors performing in this movies they helped take us back to moment in time where hope was needed and times were tough for everyone no matter what walk of life you came from. The thing that I would have to say that I liked most about this movie is that it is based on a true story, I just seem to love movies like that it adds a whole bit more realism to everything.

Now the horses are entering the final stretch towards the finish and Seabiscuit is neck and neck with the leaders lets finish this up before the horses do. This being my Dvd pick of the month for July I would have to give this movie a 8.5 on the Justin Scale of movies. In fact if I would have to say it is in my top 10 all time favourite movies true masterpiece a movie that touches your heart & soul.

It is down to the wire and it the winner is Seabiscuit in this race for the running of the July DVD pick of the month. Well that takes care of another monthly dvd pick so as always Good Morning, Good Afternoon, Good Evening and as always Good Viewing I will see you all again at the movies.
