Good day my friends and welcome back to another of my movie reviews this time we look at this weeks big release Snow White And The Huntsman a different look at the classic fairy tale. This movie stars Charlize Theron ( Monster , Young Adult ) as Ravenna , Kristen Stewart ( Twilight) as Snow White and Chris Hemsworth (Thor , The Avengers) as the Huntsman.
When King Magnus' Wife dies and leaves him to raise their daughter Snow White a dark force enter's the land and a mysterious army attacks the kingdom which forces the King into war. After defeating the army the King rescues a woman Ravenna ( Theron) held captive by the army and is so captivated by her beauty that he falls in love with her and marries her . Unknown to the King Ravenna is the real dark force as she kills the King and lets in her real army into the kingdom and takes it over keeping the young SnowWhite captive in the castle tower. Years have passed and all life has been sucked from the land from the result of Ravenna's rule and using her dark magic she continues to live forever by draining the youth from young women in order to stay young and beautiful. When her eternal youth becomes unsustainable she learns from her magic mirror that only by killing Snow White ( Stewart) and eating her heart can stay young and beautiful forever as Snow White is the only one who can kill her or keep her young forever. So she orders her killed but Snow White escapes the tower and the castle into the dark woods a place that the Queens army has no knowledge of . So she gives orders to find someone who has been in the dark woods and survived enter the Huntsman ( Hemsworth) a man who lost his wife and has now taken to drinking heavily & getting into fights hoping to die.The queen promises him that she has the power to bring his wife back to life if he goes into the dark forrest to revive Snow White and bring her back but he learns that he was lied to and instead helps Snow white escape . He reluctantly agrees to help Snow White get to Duke Hammonds castle who is been waging a rebellion against Ravenna so that they might lead an army against the Queen and along the way the Huntsman learns that Snow White is the Princess and rightful Queen .
With this particular movie while I did find this different take on the fairytale classic interesting a little more dark than the what we are all used to from the Walt Disney cartoon . But this movie while it had potential had many weak parts such as the movie stared out fairly strong but then tailed off and was weak the rest of the way through and could have been much better. The character of Snow White while being the main character didn't have many lines it seemed and Kristen Stewart's performance not entirely convincing , really weak in fact. She seemed to spend most of the movie saying the odd line here or there and walking around confused. The performance by Charlize Theron as Ravenna the wicked queen was exceptional and Chris Hemsworth was charming and entertaining but these two performances could not help a particularly weak script.
Well the time has come to give this movie my rating so on the Justin Scale I would give this movie a 5.8 because again it had couple of good performances but the script needed a little more work and I was expecting more from this movie . So for these reason's I must say that this movie goes in The Flick-It pile I would personally wait until it came out on dvd to watch it.
So the time has come again to call it a wrap on this latest movie review and as always Good Morning, Good Afternoon, Good Evening and as always Good Viewing I will see you all again at the movies.
