HEY! That's My Boy

Hello my friends and welcome back to one of my Tuesday night/Wednesday morning reviews after taking a week away from writing a mid-week review to recharge my batteries I am back. Now lets get down to it this week we are going to a family reunion as we look t the new Adam Sandler comedy That's My Boy . This movie stars of course Adam Sandler ( The Wedding Singer) as Donnie Berger  , Andy Samberg ( I Love You Man) as his son Todd and Leighton Meester ( Gossip Girl) as Todd's fiancĂ© Jamie. This movie also included most of the usual Sandler movie regulars but it did have James Caan ( The Godfather) , 80's rapper Vanilla Ice and singer Tony Orlando. So I think all the guests have arrived lets get to the party shall we.

In 1984 young Donnie Berger just in his teens has a crush on one of his teachers Miss McGarricle and after he inappropriately hits on her in the hallway at school she sends him to detention. While in detention he finds out that she has a thing for him too and so starts a very wrong teacher student sexual relationship. Their secret relationship doesn't stay a secret for long as they are soon discovered having sex by the whole school at an assembly which the result is Miss Mcgarricle ending up pregnant and being sent to prison for 30 years in which Donnie is to raise their child . From all this Donnie gains fame and fortune as he gets his 15min of fame but like all one hit wonders he is quickly forgotten about.  It is now present day and Donnie ( Sandler ) hasn't paid his income tax for a few years and owes the IRS $47,000 or he will go to jail for 3 years. Looking to still try and cash in on what is left of his fame Donnie convinces a TV tabloid journalist to pay him $50,000 if he and his son Han Solo who has now changed his name to Todd ( Samberg) to do a reunion with Miss McGarricle at the prison. There is one catch though Todd left home at 18, has not spoken to Donnie since then and does not trust him. To cap it all off Todd is about to get married Jaime ( Meester) that same weekend that Donnie is needing to do the TV special. Donnie makes his way up to Todd's bosses house where everyone for the wedding is staying to try and trick him into going to the prison to see his mother but Todd having created a new life  by changing his name and telling everyone that his parents were both dead has to lie to protect his secret about who he really is and that Donnie is his father and not his friend. With trying to trick Todd into helping him save his own skin so he can get the money to keep him out of prison Donnie starts to rebuild his relationship with his son.

Well the party is going well it seems , people are having a good times lets continue on shall we. Now first of all this movie while having some funny moments but in the end was nothing more than close to 2hrs of partial nudity, booze and bad sex jokes. Adam Sandler gives us yet another annoying movie character with a annoying voice even worse than Little Nicky . Andy Samberg was enjoyable in this movie as was Leighton Meester but it was wasted on a week script that could have been so much better . What I did also like though is that the characters of the young Miss McGarricle was played by Susan Sarandon's daughter Eva Amurri Martino and the present day Miss McGarricle was played by Susan Sarandon. Now I have liked a few of Adam Sandler's movies in the past and there was a few moments in this movie that I was laughing but not a lot .

Well the parties almost over lets start to clean things up shall we so lets start with the Justin Scale and on the Justin Scale I would give this movie a 5.4 as this movie was not entirely funny and I felt Andy Samberg and Leighton Meester's talents were wasted here. So I have no choice but to say that when it comes to That's My Boy I will have to say Flick-It , if you really want to see this movie I would wait till it comes out on DVD I am sure it won't take long for it to.

Well the everyone has left so it is time to call it a wrap on this latest review so as always Good Morning , Good Afternoon , Good Evening and as always Good Viewing I will see you all again at the movies.
