The Avengers is directed by Joss Whedon ( TV's Buffy The Vampire Slayer) and stars Robert Downey Jr ( Ironman 1&2 ) as Tony Stark aka Ironman , Chris Evans ( Captain America , The Fantasic Four ) as Steve Rodgers aka Captain America , Mark Ruffalo ( 13 going On 30 ) as Dr. David Banner aka The Incredible Hulk , Chris Hemsworth ( Thor ) as the norse God of Thunder Thor , Scarlett Johansson ( The Prestige , Ironman 2) as Natasha Romanoff aka The Black Widow , Jeremy Renner ( The Town , The Bourne Legacy) as Clayton Barton aka Hawkeye and Samuel L Jackson as S.h.i.e.l.d director Nick Fury. Now that's a pretty impressive cast list if I do say so myself but let me tell you a little bit about what the story is about and we will get back to the cast and everything else to do with the movie.
When the Tesseract an energy source from an unknown origin with limitless potential suddenly reactivates itself in a S.H.I.E.L.D facility director Nick Fury ( Jackson) arrives to over see the facilities evacuation and find out what triggered the sudden activation of the Tesseract. With a sudden burst of cosmic energy a portal opens and through it steps the Norse God Loki Thor's brother who had been thought to be dead but was exiled to which he encountered an alien race with ties to the Tesseract called the Chituari that plan to use it for domination of the universe and promise Loki Earth to rule and the Chitauri armies to command if he retrieves the Tesseract for them. While taking the device Loki also takes control of numerous S.H.I.E.L.D members which include Dr. Eric Selvig ( Stellan Skaarsgard) and agent Clayton Barton ( Hawkeye).This in turn forces Nick Fury to to re-activate the Avenger initiative in order to stop Loki and the Chitauri to which he assemble sthe help of Steve Rodgers/Captain America ( Evans) , Tony Stark/Ironman ( Downey Jr) Dr. Bruce Banner/ The Incredible Hulk( Ruffalo) , Natasha Romanoff/ The Black Widow(Johansson) and Thor ( Hemsworth) to retrieve the Tesseract , stop Loki and the Chitauri from destroying the Earth all the while trying to work together as a team.
Along with this movies impressive cast list which in my opinion worked really well together and seemed to have real chemistry the movie also boasted a pretty good story line which never seemed to make you lose any interest in this movie. For this being the first big summer blockbuster released I have to say that I was very impressed with it because normally all you would usually get is a bunch of special effects mixed with a poor story line all rushed through to the running time of about an hour and forty minutes and left kind of feeling disappointed because the trailer seemed to promise you more. Well that was not the case with The Avengers as not only did it have good characters , a story that keeps you interested , great special effects but it also had a great mix of comedy in the script and pulled it all off effectively in 2hrs and 22 minutes that keeps you wanting more. It is for these reasons that I must give this movie a 8.5 on the Justin Scale of movies and to tell you to most definitely to Pick-It as I was entertained by this movie and I am fairly certain that you will enjoy it as much as I did the build up was certainly worth the wait in the case of this movie.
