John Carter A Distant Journey Or Short Trip

Hello again my friends well it is time for the weekly review of one the latest movies to arrive at the theatre for our entertainment or for us to say it is not worth our time and money to see or to say yeah I will and go and see that one . This weeks review is of the big budget science fiction movie John Carter starring Taylor Kitsch(TV's Friday Night Lights & X-Men Origins Wolverine) as the the title character John Carter which is based on the novel A Princess Of Mars written by Edgar Rice Burroughs in 1912 is also known for creating Tarzan which he created after this story. Well lets get down to it so here it is this movie takes place in two places it starts on earth where Civil War veteran John Carter of Virginia telegrams his nephew Edgar to come to see him immediately . Upon his arrival Edgar learns of his uncles sudden death upon which he inherits John's entire estate and is given the journal of his uncle's and reads of the out of this world story . The story then takes us to how John Carter while in search of a legendary cave of gold is transported to the distant planet of Mars where he learns that he has the ability to jump great distances and a new found strength  because of his different body structure and soon encounters a group of primitive 12 foot green barbarians who take him into their tribe because of his astonishing abilities. He soon learns about a civil war that is raging on between two cities on Mars  Zodanga and Helium to which Carter becomes involved in after rescuing the Helium princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins X-Men Origins Wolverine) and becomes the only hope to save the entire planet from destruction from Zodangans and a dark sinister force also at work. This movie while somewhat interesting in some parts, I did find it dragged on in some parts and really made it easy to lose interest in the movie , another flaw of this movie was the acting in it was sub par at best which showed that either the actors were trying to hard or were really not to interested in this particular movies script and were not doing justice to the characters they were playing as I found them unbelievable. Director Andrew Stanton 's first live action directorial attempt as can read had some bad flaws in it and I can see where he was trying to go with this movie but the finished product just didn't seem spark my interest in this movie . He had my interest from the start but then lost me close to half way through it. So if you were to ask me where this movie ranks on the Justin Scale of movies I would have to give it a 5 and say Flick-It if you really want to see this movie than I would wait till it comes on DVD to watch it. Now comes the time for me to call it a wrap on this weeks review and as always Good Morning, Good Afternoon , Good Evening and as always Good Viewing I will see you all again at the movies.

  1. Despite occasional moments of silliness, the old-fashioned sense of adventure and brilliantly rendered aliens elevate this above other derivative big-budget sci-fi fare. I still wished that Kitsch did a lot better in this lead role but he was only there for eye-candy really. Good review.
