The Hunger Games The Odds Are In It's Favour

Well hello again my friends I hope you are all doing feel and if you are not then maybe my latest review will make you feel better. This weeks review is on the the long awaited movie The Hunger Games which is based on the first novel in the best selling trilogy of books by Suzanne Collins and stars Jennifer Lawrence ( X-Men First Class , Best Actress Nominee Winter's Bone) , Josh Hutcherson ( Bridge To Teribithia) Liam Hemsworth ( The Last Song) , Woody Harrelson ( White Men Can't Jump) , Elizabeth Banks ( 40 Year Old Virgin, Invincible) and screen legend Donald Sutherland ( A Time To Kill , Space Cowboys, The Italian Job) that also happened to have a very impressive opening weekend at the movie theatre and shows no sign of slowing down. In the future after a great war as the result of an uprising of the 12 districts in the country of Panem against the Capitol each of the 12 districts send two representatives a boy and a girl selected in the Reaping as Tributes in The Hunger Games a brutal game of survival in which there can only be one winner and to win you must be the last one left alive . These games are televised on all over the country as the the entire nation is required to watch this battle to the death. When Primrose Everdeen of District 12 a mining District is selected her sister Katniss (Lawrence) volunteers as tribute to take her place in the games she is taken to the Capitol where her and Peeta Mellark ( Hutcherson) meet the other 22 competitors most of whom have trained their entire lives for this . Once there they are paraded around to try and get sponsors from the capitol to help them survive the games but also to train further as they prepare for the games which could lead to their own death. Although I must admit I have never read any of the books which now I think I just might I happened to find this movie really well done from the strong emotion of the closeness of Katniss to her family , the uneasy feeling of someone who has to kill another human being to survive in a game to entertain the rich and elite which is kind of reminiscent of the gladiators entertaining the citizens of Rome as they fought to the death only this time it is televised. A really well done movie with a strong set of characters , a fantastic script with a message about courage to do the right thing, how far we would go for entertainment and what those in power would do to break the spirits of the those who might stand against them. Personally I thought this was a fantastic movie although it did start off a little slow it didn't take long to pick up and keep me interested with it's story which was full of emotion and interesting characters played by some really talented actors and actresses . You probably have figured it out that I am going to give this movie a good mark and you are absolutely right as I give this movie an 8.9 on the Justin Scale of movies and this is a most definitely a Pick-It movie it is a must see even if you haven't read the books like me and if you have you will more than likely enjoy this movie. Now the time has come to say" that's a wrap " on this weeks edition of Pick-it Or Flick-It so as always Good Morning , Good Afternoon , Good Evening and as always Good Viewing I will see you ll again at the movies.

  1. Take away the hullabaloo surrounding the film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ best-selling young adult book and what you have is an absorbing film with a dire premise that stands pretty much on its own. Lawrence is also the stand-out here as Katniss and makes her seem like a real person rather than just another book character brought to life on film. Good review Justin.
